SINGAPORE, June 15: Sarawak is stepping up efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Singapore in sustainable infrastructure, water management, and green technology as Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi began his official working visit to the city-state today.

According to a press release, Julaihi, who arrived on Sunday (June 14), kicked off his visit by paying a courtesy call to Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, Grace Fu.

As Singapore’s water and energy policies are under Fu’s purview, the meeting served as a vital platform in exchanging strategies on how to enhance utility resilience and achieve long-term environmental sustainability.

Today, Julaihi and his delegation carried out a technical site visit to the Sustainable Tropical Data Centre Testbed (STDCT), which is a joint research facility led by the National University of Singapore (NUS) and National University of Singapore (NUS).

“The STDCT is pioneering energy-efficient liquid and hybrid cooling systems specifically designed to reduce energy and water consumption in the demanding hot and humid conditions of the tropics,” said the press release.

Accompanying Julaihi were the acting permanent secretary for the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak, George Lee; Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) quality manager, Tie Tung Ing; and Sarawak Water acting chief executive officer (CEO), Malseni Jamal.

Tomorrow (June 16), Julaihi is slated to deliver a keynote address at the Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) 2026 at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre.

Following the address, he will officiate the Sarawak Pavilion, which will showcase the State’s advancements in utility management to an international audience from June 16-18. — DayakDaily
