KOTA KINABALU (Feb 25): The State Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) is closely monitoring Sabah’s weather, which is expected to remain humid over the next five days.
NRES Minister Datuk Sri Arthur Joseph Kurup said the latest analysis from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) indicates that weak easterly and westerly winds will influence the state throughout the forecast period, increasing humidity and the likelihood of rain and thunderstorms in several areas.
“For the west coast area, rain is expected to occur in Sabah waters in the morning, while in the afternoon to evening rain and thunderstorms are expected to occur in several places,” he said in a statement.
In the Interior, rain is likely in the mornings at the start and end of the period, while afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout.
Meanwhile, in the Sandakan, Tawau, and Kudat divisions, rain is forecast in the mornings, with thunderstorms likely in the afternoons and evenings.
“I have instructed MetMalaysia to ensure that the distribution of this weather information and warnings is carried out aggressively and on time.
“I want the people of Sabah to have access to accurate and up-to-date forecast data so that any risk of disasters due to this wet weather can be managed more effectively at the community level.
“I call on all Sabahans to always be vigilant against sudden weather changes, especially in the evening and at night,” he said.
The public can access the latest forecasts via the myCuaca app or the MetMalaysia website at www.met.gov.my.
