KOTA KINABALU (Jan 15): Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) Sindumin Division Youth has criticised the Sabah Democratic Action Party (DAP) Youth chief for inconsistently questioning the appointment of Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob as chairman of Sabah Development Berhad (SDB).
Division Youth chief Walter @ Fikrie Antahar said the statement issued by Chan Loong Wei was speculative and reflected perception-based politics and selective application of principles.
“The question is, has the Sabah DAP Youth chief forgotten his party’s own political history? During the Pakatan Harapan 1.0 administration, the appointment of Lim Guan Eng as Finance Minister was defended despite him facing court charges, on the grounds of respecting the rule of law and judicial process,” he said.
He stressed that the same principle should be applied consistently and not changed according to current political interests.
“If, in the past, respect for the judicial process was used as justification, why is that same principle being questioned today? Such an attitude clearly demonstrates political double standards and hypocrisy,” he added.
He further emphasised that politics driven by perception and sentiment brings no benefit to the people of Sabah, and only creates confusion while undermining public confidence in institutions.
“Sabah DAP Youth should offer criticism that is fair, consistent and fact-based, rather than engaging in selective politics that ultimately harms the people and the stability of the state’s development,” he said.
He urged all parties to practise mature, principled and responsible politics in the interest of the people and Sabah’s future.
