Sabah engineering bodies celebrate CNY with unity, professional fellowship

KOTA KINABALU (Feb 28): The joint Chinese New Year gathering organised by the Sabah Engineers Association (SEA), the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (Sabah Branch) (IEM Sabah) and Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (Sabah Branch) (ACEM Sabah) was held in a vibrant and festive atmosphere at the IEM Sabah Secretariat, Damai.

The event was graced by nominated assemblyman Datuk Ir Chin Shu Ying as guest of honour, and Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya, Chairman of the Sabah Oil and Gas Development Corporation (SOGDC) and Putatan MP, as the special guest.

In his address, Chin delivered a meaningful Chinese New Year message, emphasising his keen willingness including with nominated assemblyman Datuk Roger Chin to engage with the engineering fraternity regarding the professional services and continuous collaboration in supporting Sabah’s development agenda.

The celebration featured a lively lion dance performance, symbolising prosperity and good fortune for the year ahead.

The traditional Yee Sang tossing ceremony fostered camaraderie and goodwill among members and guests.

In keeping with the festive spirit, Ang Pau were presented to children, bringing joy to families in attendance.

In addition, the SEA Book Prize Awards were presented to the children and grandchildren of SEA members in recognition of their academic achievements, reflecting SEA’s commitment to education and the nurturing of future talent.

Representing SEA President Ir CC Lo and IEM Sabah, Ir. Ts. Tan KJ, JP, Vice Chairman 1, extended his New Year wishes for prosperity, good health, and success in all endeavours.

Meanwhile, Ir. Benny Song, Branch Chairman of ACEM Sabah, conveyed his heartfelt greetings, wishing members happiness, smooth progress, and the fulfilment of their aspirations in the year ahead.

The event concluded with a fellowship luncheon, providing members and guests an opportunity to strengthen professional networks and friendships in a relaxed and celebratory setting.

The annual gathering once again demonstrated the solidarity, professionalism, and shared commitment of Sabah’s engineering community in contributing towards a resilient and prosperous future for the state.
