PUTATAN (Feb 6): The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Sabah Women Engineers (WE) together with IEM main committee members, carried out a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to provide financial assistance to victims of a recent fire in Kampung Ketiau, Putatan.

The fire on January 6, affected six houses and temporarily displaced several families.

In response, IEM WE mobilised support to help ease the burden of the victims during this challenging period.

The donation handover was held at the Pusat Komuniti KOSPEN Kg Ketiau, Putatan, where the affected families are currently staying. The financial assistance was presented directly to the victims as a gesture of solidarity, care and compassion from the engineering fraternity.

IEM Sabah was represented by Ir. Ts. Tan KJ, JP, Vice Chairman I, and Ir. Paul Yap, Vice Chairman II. The IEM WE representatives present were Ir. Honeylet Ullap and Audrey Gregory Joitol, who played a key role in coordinating and delivering the CSR initiative.

Speaking at the event, the representatives reaffirmed IEM’s commitment not only to engineering excellence, but also to community service and social responsibility. The initiative reflects the belief that engineers have a meaningful role to play in supporting society, especially in times of crisis.

This CSR effort by IEM WE underscores the organisation’s dedication to standing together with affected communities and offering timely assistance, while fostering empathy, unity, and resilience among the public.
