Sabah floods: 1,387 evacuees remain at four PPS in Beaufort

KOTA KINABALU (March 1): A total of 1,387 people from 442 families remain sheltered at four temporary flood relief centres (PPS) in Beaufort as of Sunday.

According to a statement by the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee, 28 PPS across the districts of Membakut, Sipitang and Tenom were officially closed on Saturday after flood conditions in those areas improved.

The four PPS still operating in Beaufort are Pusat Pemindahan Kekal Selagon, housing 395 people from 121 families; Dewan DUN Banir, with 557 people from 172 families; Dewan Kesenian dan Kebudayaan Bisaya, accommodating 283 people from 92 families; and Dewan Residensi Prima Woodforest Estate, sheltering 152 people from 57 families.

The evacuees comprise 257 men, 472 women, 303 boys and 355 girls.

The committee added that the Malaysia Civil Defence Department (APM), the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and other relevant agencies will continue to monitor the flood situation in Beaufort.
