APM personnel evacuating flood victims in Beaufort.
KOTA KINABALU (Feb 25): Floods have affected five districts in Sabah since Tuesday, forcing 2,616 people from 1,225 families to take shelter at 10 temporary relief centres (PPS).
According to a statement from the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee, five PPS have been activated in Pitas, two in Sipitang, and one each in Sook, Beaufort, and Membakut.
In Pitas, the Dewan Majlis Daerah Pitas houses the largest number of flood victims, with 523 people from 200 families, followed by SK Pekan II with 469 people from 296 families, Dewan Terbuka Kanibongan with 353 people from 172 families, SMK Pitas with 258 people from 116 families, and Dewan Sinukab Kanibongan with 174 people from 146 families.
In Sipitang, Dewan Mini Mesapol accommodates 81 people from 25 families, while Dewan SK Padang Berampah houses 115 people from 55 families.
Dewan SLDB Dalit Gana in Sook is sheltering 73 people from 25 families. Meanwhile, Pusat Pemindahan Kekal Selagon in Beaufort accommodates 359 people from 108 families, and Dewan Kesenian Islam in Membakut houses 211 people from 82 families.
The committee reported that among the flood victims, there are 797 men, 920 women, 424 boys, and 475 girls.
Evacuation agencies, including the Malaysia Civil Defence Department (APM) and the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), are closely monitoring the situation across all affected districts.
