KOTA KINABALU (Feb 20): Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor has assured that the Sabah government, through the State Disaster Command Centre (SDCC), is closely monitoring flood-affected areas.
He said all available resources are being mobilised via the district Disaster Management Committees to provide relief and assist victims.
“I have instructed the Disaster Management Committee to activate its machinery to ensure swift assistance is rendered to those in need,” he said in a statement.
According to the SDCC, 336 individuals from 111 families have been evacuated to five Temporary Evacuation Centres (PPS) in Kota Marudu and Pitas.
The SDCC is also monitoring conditions in Sandakan and Paitan.
Hajiji advised residents in low-lying and high-risk areas to remain vigilant and prioritise safety, following adverse weather warnings issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
Meanwhile, the state government provided assistance to 16 individuals affected by a fire on Feb 18 in Kampung Tanjung Aru.
Putatan MP Datuk Shahelmey Yahya and Yayasan Kebajikan Sabah Director Datuk Diyanah Abdullah handed over contributions at the Kampung Sembulan Temporary Evacuation Centre.
