Ewon visits one of the SMJ housing applicants in Kampung Piasau.
KOTA BELUD (Jan 31): Kadamaian assemblyman Datuk Ewon Benedick spent Friday visiting families in need across the Kadamaian constituency to assess living conditions and highlight the urgent demand for Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) housing.
During the visit, Ewon and the Kadamaian Community Development Leaders Unit (UPPM) inspected seven homes in Kampung Tombulion, Kampung Piasau, Kampung Rangalau, Kampung Bukid, Kampung Tegudon, and Kampung Kelawat Pekan.
“Several houses were found to be in very poor condition, with some accommodating more than 10 occupants, including parents, children and married grandchildren.
“The cramped and dilapidated conditions make it very challenging for children to study and complete their schoolwork,” he said in a statement.
Ewon reaffirmed the Sabah government’s commitment to providing SMJ houses to families genuinely in need.
He said this year, 50 new SMJ houses have been allocated for the Kadamaian constituency, with additional units to be discussed with the Chief Minister for families living in three-generation households.
He said housing issues remain one of my personal priorities, and he would continue to assist families, including providing electricity poles and power connections for new houses located far from existing supply sources.
“The SMJ housing programme has been implemented for several years now. The construction of SMJ houses also includes basic utilities such as water and electricity supply.
“However, there are additional applications related to the installation of electricity poles and power connections for new houses located far from existing supply sources.
“This is something we will assist with to the best of our ability through the assemblyman’s allocation,” he said.
