KOTA KINABALU (March 4): The Sabah Lands and Survey Department has promoted its deputy director Sr Alan Chua as the new director.
Chua received his appointment from State Secretary Datuk Seri Panglima Sr Safar Untong.
He replaced Bernard Liew Chau Min who had led the department since Nov 4, 2019.
The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Sabah Branch Chairman Datuk Ir Ts Yaakob Haafar extends its heartfelt congratulations to Chua.
This appointment reflects the state government’s confidence in the professionalism, integrity and leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, Yaakob said in a statement.
He said the Lands and Survey Department plays a critical role in land administration, spatial planning, and sustainable development, which are fundamental to infrastructure delivery, flood mitigation, and economic growth under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 2.0 agenda.
“IEM Sabah recognises that effective land governance is essential for successful engineering implementation, including road planning, drainage systems, utility corridors, and development control.
“The Branch looks forward to strengthening collaboration with the Department under Chua’s leadership, particularly in technical dialogues, policy engagement, capacity building, and digital transformation initiatives.
“We are confident that through close cooperation between engineers and land surveyors, Sabah will continue to progress towards resilient and sustainable development,” added Yaakob.
