KOTA KINABALU (Jan 20): Sabah Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Datuk Jamawi Jaafar paid a working visit to the Likas Fisheries Complex here on Monday.
The visit aimed to listen to briefings and gain a comprehensive overview of the Sabah Fisheries Department’s structure and functions, as well as identify issues and explore solutions to enhance the department’s quality of services.
During the visit, Jamawi was briefed by Sabah Fisheries director Datin Dr Shuhada Mustapha and senior assistant director of biosecurity Matlan Abdul Rahim Thaufeck.
Also present was one of the ministry’s deputy permanent secretaries Maria David Edick.
Jamawi stressed that his ministry aspired to bring services closer to the people, and said that all agencies under the ministry must carry out this responsibility comprehensively.
“Staff from the three main agencies, namely the Fisheries Department, Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority, and Sabah Fish Marketing Sdn Bhd (Safma), are not competing with one another but instead must complement each other to ensure every function and role undertaken delivers the maximum benefit to the people,” he said.
He further called on the Fisheries Department to prepare necessities such as fish fry and related inputs to support the implementation of Jelajah Kebun Dapur.
