KOTA KINABALU (Feb 20): The Sabah Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport Ministry (Mindet) will continue supporting entrepreneurship development initiatives implemented by SEDCOVEST Holdings Sdn Bhd, said Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ewon Benedick.
The Mindet Minister pointed out that such commitment aligned with the state government’s aspiration of uplifting more Sabahans to become self-reliant and competitive entrepreneurs.
“I hope the wider Mindet team and its agencies would continue intensifying efforts to realise the ‘Sabah First Vision’, which aims to develop more Sabahans into income earners as business owners or entrepreneurs.
“In addition to developing the commercial sector, SEDCOVEST also implements socio-economic programmes, particularly in entrepreneurship development, including the provision of business premises, entrepreneurship training, guidance and support,” he said when met after visiting SEDCOVEST Holdings and receiving a briefing from its general manager Abdul Rahim Md Zin at Wisma Sedco here.
According to Ewon, improved coordination within SEDCOVEST is expected to ensure greater sustainability, self-reliance and success for its subsidiaries.
Meanwhile, Abdul Rahim said SEDCOVEST provided business premises for Bumiputera entrepreneurs to help them start or expand their businesses.
“SEDCOVEST also conducts entrepreneurship training programmes aimed at promoting an entrepreneurial culture and producing competent and credible entrepreneurs.
“Among the programmes implemented are the Graduate Entrepreneurship Workshop (Buss), Technical Entrepreneurship Workshop (Best), Basic Business Course and Selected Courses, the MeSTI and Halal Certification Programme for Sabah MSMEs, and the Tunas Niaga Programme (PROTUNe).
“The PROTUNe programme provides entrepreneurship training at secondary school level with the aim of nurturing interest among the younger generation to pursue entrepreneurship as a future career,” he said.
Also present was SEDCOVEST Holdings Sdn Bhd chairperson Datuk Redonah Bahanda.
