Sabah Muaythai fighters pose after emerging as overall champion.
BINTULU (Feb 2): The Sabah team claimed the overall championship at the Bintulu Amateur Muaythai Challenge (BAMC) Vol. 4.
The fourth edition of the tournament, held at Naim Street Mall, Bintulu Paragon, on Saturday, attracting 13 clubs and teams from Sarawak, Sabah, Johor and international participants from Indonesia.
Sabah dominated the competition, securing 11 gold medals, followed by PS Muay Thai Bintulu with nine golds while Lions 30 Muay Thai Club clinched seven golds to finish third.
The event was launched by Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing’s special duties officer, Steven Kong Kai Seng, who commended organisers for the success of BAMC.
“This championship is more than just a sporting event. It serves as a catalyst for sports tourism and generates positive impact for local communities while boosting the local economy,” he said in Sarawak Public Communications Unit statement.
Kong also noted that the inclusion of international athletes raised the level of competition, providing local athletes with valuable exposure to international standards.
He paid tribute to the late national Muay Thai pioneer, Saiful Merican, and highlighted the achievements of national exponents such as Johan Ghazali ‘Jojo’ Ghazali and Mohd Rifdean Masdor who have brought honour to Malaysia on the world stage.
