There is no certainty that a Unity Government can be re-established after GE16, and even if it is formed, says Sng.

JULAU (Dec 4): Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng has described the outcome of the recent Sabah state election, which saw five Independent candidates and several assemblymen from smaller parties win seats, as a clear sign that Malaysia’s political landscape is becoming increasingly complex and unpredictable.

Sng noted that this voting pattern suggests the upcoming 16th General Election (GE16) is likely to result in a hung Parliament, giving smaller parties and independent candidates greater influence in determining which bloc will form the government.

“We would like to emphasise that there is no certainty that a Unity Government (UG) can be re-established after GE16, and even if it is formed, it remains unclear who will be chosen to lead as Prime Minister,” he told reporters.

He added that to maintain stability and continuity in governance, the current administration must recalibrate its approach by ensuring that all UG component parties receive fair representation in the Cabinet.

“If the Prime Minister intends to maintain control, the government must adopt a more inclusive approach by placing representatives from all UG parties in the Cabinet, similar to the practices under Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) previously,” he said.

He further stressed that formulas based solely on the interests of Pakatan Harapan (PH), Umno, GPS, and GRS are no longer a guarantee of victory or political stability, as voters increasingly give space to independent figures and newly formed parties.
