Sabah’s 40 pct revenue entitlement: Federal govt to finalise technical parameters by mid-Jan, says Anwar

KOTA KINABALU (Dec 6): The federal government will finalise the technical parameters for Sabah’s long-standing 40 per cent revenue entitlement by mid-January, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar emphasised that clarity on the formula is essential before payments are structured.

He said discussions with the Attorney-General, Treasury officials and the relevant federal authorities are in the final stage, with decisions to be submitted to both the Sabah Cabinet and the federal Cabinet once the methodology, quantum and payment schedule are confirmed.

Anwar stressed that the review is not a political delay but a necessary step to ensure the entitlement can be implemented in a way that strengthens both Sabah’s finances and national fiscal stability.

“We must give proper assurance. This is not a matter of excuses or election season promises.

“We want the parameters, the amount, and the phases of payment to be absolutely clear,” he said at the Sentuhan Madani programme at the Sabah International Convention Centre here.

He added that once the parameters are finalised, the federal and state governments will jointly determine the final structure before tabling it to the respective Cabinets.
