Sabahan athlete Mohd Razy earns 400m silver at Para GP Meet

KOTA KINABALU (March 10): Mohamad Razy Hafizul Mohamad returned with a silver medal at the recent World Para Athletics Grand Prize in Dubai, UAE.

Mohamad Razy, who has a personal best of 49.94s, clocked 51.06s to finish second in the men’s 400m T20 category. Kuma Watanabe of Japan took the gold in 50.45s while Abdul Majeed Ghafiri of Saudi Arabia won the bronze in 52.34s.

A statement from Sabah Sports Council (MSN Sabah) on Monday revealed that two other Sabahan para athletes also did well in the meet although they missed out on making the podium.

Eljoe Gotuoh finished fourth in the men’s long jump T13/T20 category with a leap of 6.52m. He missed the bronze by a mere 2cm to third placed Hong Kong athlete Chow Chi Wai. Vegard Dragsu Sverd of Norway won the gold with his jump of 6.79m while Dzimitry Kaskevich of Belarus took the silver with 6.62m.

Meanwhile, Heronlee Wong registered a season best of 36.27m in the men’s discus F36/F37 event.
The effort saw him finished sixth in the event that was won by Ali Haider of Pakistan with 54.71m.

The national para athletics squad collected one gold, two silver and three bronze medals in the World Para Athletics Grand Prix.
