KOTA SAMARAHAN (Sept 7): The Samarahan International Bike Fest (SIBF) is a significant platform for promoting both big bike activities and tourism in Sarawak as it gathers big bike enthusiasts from across the state, Sabah, Brunei, Labuan, Peninsular Malaysia and Indonesia.
Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Dato Idris Buang highlighted that the festival not only encourages a healthy and active lifestyle but also fosters unity among the participants.
“I am confident that with the support and cooperation from all parties, SIBF will be a success and accepted by all.
“This event not only offers an opportunity for us to display the uniqueness and potential of Samarahan as a destination for tourism and sports,” he said.
The Muara Tuang assemblyman said this while representing Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, at the event’s launch.
He also encouraged members of the Tegar Bike Club to contribute to tourism efforts by sharing videos of their travels on their website.
“Tegar Bike Club can help complement tourism in Sarawak as the infrastructure has vastly improved after the state government spent RM20 billion on infrastructure.
“The roads from Sematan to Lawas are in good condition and there are many places of tourist interest along the way,” he said.
“Try to attract bikers/tourists to Sarawak by showing the best scenery, culture and its people in your videos. Sarawak has much to offer,” added Idris.
The 7th SIBF which will end tomorrow (Sept 8) attracted 8,000 participants, with 3,000 from all over Sarawak, 200 each from Sabah and Brunei, 400 from Indonesia, 50 from Labuan, 59 from Peninsular Malaysia, and 4,000 from Kuching and Samarahan.
