KUCHING, Aug 19: South Korean company Samsung E&A has updated the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on the ongoing implementation of the H2biscus project in Bintulu.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Samsung E&A’s executive vice president (Sustainable Solutions Division), Sean Chung, said the project aims to produce clean hydrogen using renewable energy in the State.
“We informed the Premier that part of the clean hydrogen produced will be used locally in Sarawak, while the rest will be converted into ammonia and brought to South Korea for various uses.
“This project is an important effort in the production of green hydrogen in Sarawak, which will be supplied to South Korea to generate green power.
“This effort aims to reduce the use of fossil fuels in Korea, in line with our efforts to achieve clean energy targets and reduce the carbon footprint,” he told reporters after leading a delegation to pay a courtesy call on Abang Johari at the latter’s office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.
The delegation was also joined by representatives from Korea National Oil Corporation (KNOC), Lotte Chemical Corporation and Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) Energy Malaysia.
Also present during the courtesy visit were Sarawak Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni and SEDC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain.
On the same day, Abang Johari also received a courtesy call from a delegation of Sarawak Lubricants Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary company of Senari Synergy Sdn Bhd.
The one-hour meeting gave the oil and gas industry investment holding company an opportunity to share its role in further developing related industrial sectors in Sarawak.
The delegation also voiced out their intention to invite Abang Johari as the guest of honour to grace the inauguration of the company in the near future.
Abang Johari also witnessed the handing over of business zakat for the year 2023, amounting to RM300,000 from Senari Synergy Sdn Bhd to Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) at his office.
The handover was done by the Senari Synergy Group Managing Director Jefri Ahmad Tambi to TBS General Manager Datu Abang Mohamad Shibli Abang Mohamad Nailie.
It is understood that part of the donation will be used to strengthen the Permata Synergy Programme, a charity initiative launched by Senari Synergy in 2016.
Speaking to the media after the handover ceremony, Sarawak Islamic Council (SIC) president Datuk Misnu Taha revealed that TBS also received a donation of RM6,200 from the collection by staff of Senari Synergy to support the initiative of providing medical treatment to Palestinians.
“So far, the response to the donation fund for Palestine is very encouraging, and I hope that the Muslims in Sarawak and anyone else can continue to help those in need in Palestine.
“The proceeds of our donation in Sarawak will be channelled to the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) in Kuala Lumpur,” he said. — DayakDaily
