SARATOK (Jan 21): Crime in Saratok has fallen by 24 per cent last year, with 17 fewer cases reported compared to 2024.
Saratok District police chief DSP Mathew Manggie attributed the decline to continuous, coordinated, and effective crime prevention operations.
“Public safety and security remain our top priority. Every officer and staff member continues to show full commitment and cooperation in tackling crime to ensure the people of Saratok feel safe and protected,” he said during the Saratok district police headquarters’ monthly assembly on Tuesday.
Mathew also highlighted drug abuse as a major threat, noting that 116 individuals were arrested for drug offences last year, with over half under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“This success is a proud achievement of the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) of Saratok,” he said.
He praised the proactive approach in maintaining public order, saying the drop in crime reflects effective enforcement combined with community engagement.
Mathew reminded police personnel to remain aware of political and economic developments, emphasising discipline, integrity, and professionalism as the foundation of public trust in the Royal Malaysia Police.
The assembly also recognised outstanding personnel, with several promotions awarded, and commendation letters presented to two senior officers, five rank-and-file officers, and three civil servants.
Mathew expressed hope that these recognitions would motivate continued excellence in service.
