KUCHING, March 31: A total of 287 infrastructure projects worth RM26.5 billion under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) have commenced this year, signalling Sarawak’s accelerated development phase.
Deputy Premier and Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas revealed that these projects form part of 852 approved federal and State-funded initiatives valued at RM52.4 billion under the 13MP.
“Out of this, 287 projects are already under construction, while 565 projects worth RM25.8 billion are in the tender preparation stage,” he said during the Sarawak Infrastructure Engagement Programme 2026 held at a hotel here today.
He emphasised that the scale of implementation would require strong coordination, discipline, and continuous engagement between stakeholders.
“This is why today’s programme is timely, as we are now entering the implementation phase of the 13MP,” he added.
Uggah also highlighted the achievements under the previous phase, noting that the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak had completed 11,902 projects worth RM27.6 billion, achieving a 78 per cent completion rate.
“We are targeting to reach 100 per cent completion for ongoing projects moving forward,” he said.
He stressed that all approved projects with allocated funding would be implemented, reaffirming the government’s commitment to delivering infrastructure efficiently across Sarawak.
In addition to infrastructure delivery, Uggah said the Sarawak government will continue strengthening engagement with the people.
“Through the upcoming Sarawakku Sayang programme across all 12 divisions, we aim to bring government services closer to the people. I hope this will be a very fruitful initiative,” he said.
