KUCHING, March 19: The Sarawak government has approved a funding ceiling of RM57.327 million under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) to develop public facilities at the Integrated Administrative Complex in Mulu, Marudi District.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the allocation, drawn from State funds, reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening service delivery in rural and interior areas.
He noted that the development would enhance administrative efficiency and support local economic growth, particularly in Mulu and its surrounding areas.
“With more complete and modern adminsitrative and public facilities, we can ensure the people enjoy more efficient, systematic and effective access to government services,” he said in his Hari Raya Aidilfitri message today.
The project forms part of a broader strategy to ensure balanced development across Sarawak, particularly in less accessible regions.
Abang Johari added that strengthening public infrastructure remains critical to bridging development gaps and improving the overall delivery of services to rural communities.
In line with this, he said the Sarawak government is also constructing the Miri–Marudi, Marudi–Mulu (Kuala Melinau), and Long Lama–Long Panai roads, covering approximately 142 kilometres of new roads to connect the “missing links” from Miri to Mulu and from Long Lama to Long Panai.
“The construction of these roads will enhance connectivity, strengthen accessibility, and stimulate socio-economic development in the rural areas of Baram and Marudi.
“It is expected to benefit approximately 75,000 residents in the State constituencies of Marudi, Telang Usan, and Mulu, particularly by improving travel safety and providing easier access to essential services such as healthcare and education,” he emphasised.
Additionally, Abang Johari highlighted that the project will improve access to Gunung Mulu National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in supporting tourism growth and strengthening regional integration through connectivity with the Sabah-Sarawak Link Road. — DayakDaily
