KUCHING, May 6: The health research sector has attracted RM1.8 billion in research funding between 2012 and 2025, with most of the inflow concentrated in Kuching.

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said the achievement was highlighted in the Clinical Research Malaysia (CRM) annual report, which was launched in Kuching last month, and has also generated more than 3,500 high-income, skilled job opportunities.

“Clinical Research Malaysia’s annual report, launched in Kuching last month, showed that from 2012 to 2025, the organisation successfully brought in RM1.8 billion in research funding, with the majority remaining in Kuching.

“Over the same period, more than 3,500 high-skilled and well-paid job opportunities were created,” he said when officiating the Affin Bank Batu Kawa branch opening at Pine Square today.

On the new branch, Dr Sim, who is also Batu Kawa assemblyman, welcomed its establishment in his constituency, describing it as more than a routine banking expansion but part of Sarawak’s broader development agenda.

The Affin Bank Batu Kawa branch is part of Affin’s wider network of 13 branches across the state, aimed at improving access to banking services for the public.

Also present were Affin Islamic Bank Berhad chairman Musa Abdul Malek, Affin Hwang Investment Bank Berhad chairman Hasli Hashim, and Affin Moneybrokers chairman Admiral (Rtd) Tan Sri Ahmad Kamarulzaman Ahmad Badaruddin. — DayakDaily
