KUCHING (March 27): Sarawak is strengthening its global footprint in the maritime sector through its participation in the Asia Pacific Maritime (APM) 2026 exhibition in Singapore.

The three-day event, which ends today, showcases the state’s growing capabilities in shipbuilding, marine engineering and offshore services, highlighting its ambition to position itself as a key player in the international maritime industry.

Jointly led by the Sarawak Association of Maritime Industries (Samin) and Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (Statos), the Sarawak Pavilion was launched by State Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang, alongside permanent secretary to the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Datu Lester Matthew.

“This marks a significant milestone in Sarawak’s continued push to strengthen its presence on the international maritime stage,” Statos said in a statement.

Held at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre, the event has gathered global industry players, providing Sarawak a platform to strengthen international partnerships and attract investment.

Samin president Ling Tiu Khing said with the rising global demand for new-built vessels, Sarawak’s shipbuilding industry has been steadily enhancing its capabilities through the adoption of new technologies, strengthening of technical expertise and upgrading of shipyard facilities.

“Sarawak’s shipbuilders are committed to meeting international standards and market requirements,” he said.

He added the APM serves as an important platform for Sarawak to showcase its strengths, connect with global industry players and elevate the visibility of its maritime sector.

According to Statos, the Sarawak Pavilion features Sarawak-based companies, highlighting their expertise in vessel design and construction, offshore support services and marine solutions.

Sarawak’s participation also aligns with broader efforts to drive economic growth and create employment opportunities, particularly in technical and industrial sectors.

In line with global maritime trends, the state is also placing strong emphasis on sustainability, including the adoption of greener technologies, innovation and improved operational efficiency.

“Samin continues to play a key role in advancing the maritime industry in Sarawak by fostering collaboration among stakeholders and promoting Sarawak at the international level,” Statos added.

APM 2026 is expected to attract over 20,000 industry professionals, 750 global exhibitors and more than 150 expert speakers, reinforcing its status as a key platform for maritime business and innovation.
