KUCHING (March 25): The Sarawak State Council of The Boys’ Brigade in Malaysia (BB) marked its 65th anniversary with a thanksgiving service at Trinity Methodist Church here on Saturday.

Over 500 members, officers, and guests attended the service, which began with a solemn Colour March-in, followed by a welcome address from state commissioner Sim Tze Sian, who acknowledged state patron Stephen Lau Lee Kiong and other distinguished guests.

Among those present were Brigade Malaysia president Melvin Seah, honorary president Nicholas Yeap, BB Asia leaders Dr Resien Chiu, Sunny Wu, and Dr Lim K Tham, as well as Girls’ Brigade Malaysia national president Lau Mee Ting and Girls’ Brigade Sarawak president Lau Sie Bing.

Praise and worship led by the church’s young adult band set a vibrant tone for the gathering, while deputy chaplain Rev Poh Chin Sing delivered the opening prayer.

In his address, Sim reflected on the Brigade’s journey over the past 65 years, highlighting its growth to more than 7,000 members, including over 1,200 indigenous members, and the establishment of four Roman Catholic-sponsored companies.

He also urged members to “dream big for God” and continue expanding the ministry.

A video presentation showcasing BB Sarawak’s history was screened before the offering session, followed by a sermon by state chaplain Rev Dr Khoo Ho Peng titled ‘Build and Shine: Crossing in God’s Promise’.

Drawing from Joshua 1:1–9, Khoo likened the BB’s growth to a mustard seed, acknowledging the challenges faced over the decades while affirming God’s faithfulness.

He reminded members that “we are one Brigade under one Captain” and encouraged the current generation to move forward in faith.

He also paid tribute to long-serving members Albert Kedit and Dr Peter Kedit of the 1st Kuching Company, who have been with the Brigade since 1961, and called on members to remain steadfast and united in their service.

The service concluded with a liturgy of rededication, where all captains reaffirmed their commitment to the ministry, followed by a benediction, Colour March-out, and a group photo session.
