KUCHING, Dec 3: The Sarawak Cancer Centre has entered the pre-implementation phase, with Malaysian Public Works Department (JKR) appointed as the implementing agency and an initial project cost of RM1.52 billion following the completion of the Value Assessment Lab.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said JKR Malaysia is finalising the Preliminary Detailed Abstract (PDA), which will define the project’s scope, technical specifications, and financial structure.
“The construction period is scheduled from 2026 to 2031,” he said during his ministerial winding up speech at the Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today.
The Sarawak Cancer Centre is one of the flagship healthcare projects under the 13th Malaysia Plan. In July, the Federal Government announced that the centre is among five major medical facilities nationwide prioritised under a RM40 billion allocation for the healthcare sector between 2026 and 2030.
When tabling the 13MP, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the investments aim to enhance access, affordability and the overall quality of public healthcare while reducing out-of-pocket expenses for Malaysians. —DayakDaily
