KUCHING, Apr 14: Sarawak is aiming for at least one of eight identified local Bumiputera companies to be listed on Bursa Malaysia before the end of this year.

In a TVS news report, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the eight companies were identified through collaboration with related agencies, including Unit Peneraju Agenda Bumiputera (Teraju), and are being prepared through the Road to IPO programme.

“Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are the backbone of the economy. They have significantly contributed to the nation’s economic development and gross domestic product (GDP), but many remain small, and some are not registered.

“Because of this, we have launched programmes to help register them,” he said at a press conference following his attendance at the Teraju Aspirasi Outreach Sarawak 2026 programme held at the TEGAS Digital Village on Monday (Apr 13), where he represented Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment also explained that the move aligns with the Sarawak Bumiputera Economic Action Plan 2035 (SBB2035), which aims to see at least three Bumiputera companies from the State listed by 2030.

He said this could initiate a multiplier effect for the State’s economy as it would generate high-income employment opportunities, strengthen supporting industries, and increase the participation of SMEs.

At the same time, Awang Tengah also highlighted Sarawak’s strength in renewable energy and its 10,000 MW target by 2030, serving as a key driver for investment and attracting more technology-focused companies to the State. — DayakDaily
