KUCHING (March 13): Several issues involving the Sarawak and federal governments have been resolved following a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim earlier, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Without revealing the specifics, Abang Johari said the outcome reflected the strong spirit of cooperation between the two administrations.

“Earlier we had a short meeting between the federal government and the Sarawak government.

“We discussed a few matters and Alhamdulillah, with the unity and camaraderie between the federal government and the Sarawak government, it seems the problems have been resolved,” he said at the Sarawak-level Madani 2026 iftar event held at Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak here, which was graced by Anwar.

Abang Johari expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for visiting Sarawak despite his busy schedule.

“On behalf of the Sarawak government and the people of Sarawak, I would like to record my highest appreciation and thanks to the Prime Minister.

“Although he is very busy, I understand that he had a Cabinet meeting this morning before taking a flight to Kuching to meet the people of Sarawak,” he said.

Abang Johari said Malaysia’s domestic stability has enabled the country’s leadership to play a constructive role in addressing international issues.

He noted that Anwar has been in contact with leaders from Islamic countries regarding current developments that could affect the global economy, including the region.

“We have been informed that the Prime Minister is truly busy because leaders from Islamic countries have contacted him to seek ways to address current issues which could have significant implications for the global economy, especially in our region.

“We pray that the Prime Minister will be able to contribute his ideas to ease the situation, which could have a big impact on global politics so that there will be peace among us,” he said.

Abang Johari noted that Malaysia’s stability allows the Prime Minister to focus on international responsibilities rather than being distracted by domestic concerns.

“If our country were in chaos, the Prime Minister would have to focus on domestic matters and would not be able to assist the international community.

“But Alhamdulillah, our country is peaceful, our economy is good, our currency has strengthened and investments are coming in,” he said.

He added that Sarawak is also attracting growing interest from foreign investors, with many ambassadors visiting the state to explore potential investment opportunities.

“In Sarawak, we are also benefiting because many ambassadors are coming to Sarawak looking for investments to help us, and in the end the whole Malaysian population of various races and beliefs will benefit,” he said.

Abang Johari also highlighted state initiatives, including the Sarawak Basic Needs Assistance Scheme (SKAS), which provides support to low-income groups.

“Sarawak is also helping through SKAS. We have allocated RM650 million to assist the B40 target group, and this will certainly help ease the burden, especially with the impact of rising oil prices currently happening,” he said.

He also hinted that the Prime Minister had approved certain matters regarding Sarawak during his visit.

“Thank you for coming. Not only did you come, you also approved something just now, and it will certainly benefit us,” he said.

The Sarawak-level Madani 2026 iftar gathering was attended by about 1,000 people including federal and state leaders, senior government officials, and the public.
