KUCHING, Dec 19: The Sarawak Kenyah National Association (PKKS) has recorded its first entry in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBoR) for the “Longest Non-Stop Traditional Saga Performance”.
According to TVS News, the achievement was announced by MBoR representative Edwin Yeoh via video call after the 24-hour performance concluded at around 2.40pm yesterday (Dec 18).
“Creating this record helps highlight the Kenyah cultural heritage as an important asset, while giving official recognition at the national level.
“Secondly, by setting this record, cultural elements such as traditional dances, sape music and traditional attire can be formally documented and promoted for future generations.
“MBoR recognition draws media and public attention, making Kenyah culture more known and appreciated by all Malaysians,” the statement read.
PKKS said the record was set to elevate the status of Kenyah culture at the national level, support cultural preservation efforts and increase public awareness.
The record-breaking performance was part of the 2025 Sarawak Kenyah Cultural Festival, which runs from December 17 to 20 at the FORUM Cultural Centre, Jalan Padang Kerbau, in Miri.
The festival also features a variety of cultural competitions and activities, including traditional performances, traditional games, life skills and arts contests, Kenyah motif drawing and colouring, folk song competitions, as well as traditional costume pageants for Ratu and Bujang Tampan.
The biennial Sarawak Kenyah Cultural Festival was first launched in 2007, two years after the establishment of PKKS. — DayakDaily
