Sarawak Metro advises caution on key routes amid KUTS project construction

KUCHING (Sept 2): Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Metro) has advised road users to exercise caution on the routes from Rembus to Stutong and from Kuch­ing Sentral to Pending due to the ongoing construction activities.

In a notice posted on its Facebook page, Sarawak Metro stated that these construction activities are part of the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Project Phase 1 and will take place from Sept 1 to Nov 30.

The work duration is for 90 days until further notice, and the works will be carried out daily from 8am to 5pm and 7pm to 5am.

The affected roads include Jalan Kampung Plaie, Jalan Datuk Mohammad Musa and Kuching-Samarahan Expressway for Rembus to Stutong route, and Jalan Lapangan Terbang, Jalan Tun Jugah, Jalan Simpang Tiga, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Datuk Marican Salleh, Jalan Chong Ted Tsiung and Jalan Wan Abdul Rahman (for Kuching Sentral to Pending).

Sarawak Metro said the construction activities involve cutting trees, carting off unsuitable materials, loading and unloading of construction materials, road upgrades and widening and trial pit works.

“Please adhere strictly to all traffic management measures, road warning signs, and speed limits, to ensure the safety of road users and construction workers.

“Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd will duly notify the public if there are any changes to the duration of the construction activities. Road users are advised to plan their journeys accordingly. Any inconvenience caused is very much regretted.”

Sarawak Metro, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), has been entrusted by the Sarawak Government to modernise public transport through the KUTS project.

The backbone of the KUTS project is the introduction of the zero-emission Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) hydrogen vehicles, which will be operated on dedicated lanes, mostly be at-grade (road level) with some elevated sections.
