KUCHING (Dec 6): Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd and SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd, two key subsidiaries of the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), are set to be transferred to new state entities in 2026, marking a major shift in the state’s economic landscape.
SEDC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain announced that following the state government’s restructuring exercise, SEDC Energy will be placed under Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros), while Sarawak Metro will come under the State Financial Secretary Inc.
He expressed his gratitude to the directors and management teams of both entities for their dedication since their establishment.
“With this transition ahead of us, I would like to sincerely thank the directors and management teams for their contributions in establishing and operating these entities under SEDC since their inception,” he said at the SEDC Corporate Dinner at Riverside Majestic Hotel here on Friday night.
Sarawak Metro, established in 2018 as a subsidiary of SEDC, was tasked with developing the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) to modernise public transport, ease traffic congestion, and promote Sarawak’s green hydrogen economy through Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) and feeder buses.
Meanwhile, SEDC Energy (SEDCE), formed in 2019 as SEDC’s energy arm, drives the state’s green energy agenda, focusing on hydrogen development, clean mobility, and positioning Sarawak as a key player in the global energy transition.
On tourism and real estate, Abdul Aziz reaffirmed that the Damai Peninsula Masterplan remains a key development focus, featuring exclusive villas, luxury condominiums, premium commercial centres, world-class recreational facilities, and a cruise terminal expected to be operational by 2030.
He also stressed that the construction of a dual carriageway to Damai is crucial for unlocking the peninsula’s full potential.
“The upgraded road is not just an infrastructure project; it is a strategic enabler that will open the gateway for Damai’s transformation.
“SEDC is committed to advancing both fronts in parallel to ensure this vision becomes a reality and benefits Sarawak for generations to come,” he added.
