SIBU (July 2): Sarawakians now are more confident in the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg as his many initiatives towards making Sarawak a developed region by 2030 have been proven successful.

These efforts have brought Sarawak to its current status, making the region the envy of other states in the country, says Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women chief Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.

“When we visited other states as our preparation for the 21st Sukma (Malaysi Games) and met their menteri besar or chief ministers or exco members as well as those in charge of sports, they praised Sarawak.

“It is a fact that Sarawak’s achievement in terms of economy, unity and our position in the global eyes now is due to the initiatives of our premier.

“We were still blurry when he talked about the digital economy before Covid-19. We only realised his points when Covid-19 hit and people started selling things via digital platforms.

“Post Covid-19, digital technology changed the way we market our products domestically and internationally as well as our service delivery.

“There are many other initiatives such as renewable energy and green economy that we were unfamiliar with. But, we are not like before as we have more confidence with the premier because what he said has been proven now,” she said during the PBB Women Central Zone gathering at Sibu Islamic Complex here on Sunday.

Also present at the gathering were Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee and PBB Women deputy chief Datin Sri Angelina Ujang.

Fatimah went on to describe Abang Johari as ‘a very far-sighted leader and worthy to be emulated by others’.

“He talks like he is a scientist; a lawyer although he is not one.

“In the past, no one wanted to look at Sarawak, and some even looked down on us. Now all that has changed due to our Premier’s initiatives.

“World Bank recognition for Sarawak as a high income state, acquisition of Bintulu Port, setting up of our own airlines…all these are what we want to hear.

“Still, there are those who don’t. Some are very negative that they openly belittle the efforts of our Premier – proof that they envy our achievements,” she said.

Fatimah later called upon PBB Women members to remain strong and undivided in their support towards Abang Johari.
