Sim says the Premier’s call for accountability, delivery and results was clear and timely as Sarawak enters a decisive phase of its development journey.
KUCHING (Jan 14): Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s remarks that 2026 will mark a critical turning point for Sarawak, highlight the importance of leadership measured by tangible outcomes rather than the number of plans announced, said Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Stakan branch chairman Dato Sim Kiang Chiok.
He said the Premier’s call for accountability, delivery and results was clear and timely as Sarawak enters a decisive phase of its development journey.
“As Sarawak advances under the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and guided by 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), the emphasis on disciplined implementation, clear ownership of projects and measurable results is both necessary and urgent.
“The state has already laid strong foundations through strong institutions, sound fiscal management, innovative financing mechanisms and forward-looking policies.
“What is required now is firm execution, timely decision-making and effective coordination on the ground,” he said in a statement.
Sim also stressed that known pitfalls must be addressed decisively to prevent delivery from faltering.
“Bureaucratic red tape, overlapping authority, excessive delays and any form of corruption must be stopped.
“These weaknesses undermine public trust, inflate costs and slow delivery. Procedures should enable progress, not obstruct it, and integrity must remain non-negotiable at every level of implementation,” he said.
Sim added that Sarawak has the fundamentals needed to realise its development goals, citing sustainable revenue, good governance, a capable civil service, skilled manpower, advancing technology and strong public support.
“With unity, transparency and courageous implementation, Sarawak can achieve its goal of becoming a developed and high-income state by 2030, delivering real and lasting benefits in the spirit of ‘Segulai Sejalai’ (together in unity),” he said.
