KUCHING, Sept 25: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has announced that Sarawak Skills and i-Cats University College will expand the number of green economy-related programmes designed to equip graduates with the skills required to support the State’s transition to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly economy.
Abang Johari emphasised the importance of these programmes in ensuring that Sarawak can generate a highly skilled workforce capable of contributing to the State’s growing green energy sector.
“Sarawak is very active in the development of green technology and renewable alternative energy sources. It has become a leader in the development of ecosystems and green hydrogen production in Malaysia, and will continue to develop in a more sustainable manner, guided by green economy technology,” he stated in a speech delivered by Sarawak Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (MEITD), Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn.
Sagah, representing Abang Johari, officiated the 26th Convocation Ceremony of Sarawak Skills and i-Cats University College, held today at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here.
The Premier also highlighted that the Sarawak government hopes to develop as much local talent as possible to propel industries outlined in the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which are grounded in the digital economy and focused on addressing issues like climate change.
“To implement PCDS 2030, the Sarawak government is enhancing infrastructure development and increasing investment to expand the economy and create job and business opportunities.
“Under PCDS 2030, one of the key enablers is education and human capital development.
“The transformation of human capital strategies should focus on providing a more productive, effective, skilled, technological, and high-value workforce, which will lead to increased family incomes and improved living standards,” he added.
A total of 982 students graduated today, comprising graduates from Sarawak Skills and i-Cats University College.
The event was attended by various dignitaries and officials, including MEITD deputy minister Datuk Dr Annuar Rapa’ee as well as Sarawak Skills chairman and i-Cats University College pro-chancellor, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain. — DayakDaily
