LIMBANG (Feb 19): The Sarawak government is studying a proposal to increase the number of Chinese community leaders and Village Development and Security Committee (KMKK) chiefs in the district to better reflect the community’s growing population.
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah said the role of KMKK leaders is crucial in ensuring an effective and responsive grassroots leadership structure, while serving as an important channel for conveying government policies and agendas to the people.
“We will first discuss the matter with the Resident’s Office and the Limbang District Office as it involves the state government and administration.
“I have heard about the need, and we are currently studying it,” the Limbang MP said during a Chinese New Year open house visits here on Tuesday, accompanied by Batu Danau assemblyman Dato Paulus Palu Gumbang and Limbang District Council chairman Councillor Sufian Mohat.
Hasbi, who is also Limbang MP, said further discussions would be held with the relevant authorities to assess the necessity of creating additional Chinese KMKK posts in the district.
