KUCHING (Dec 12): Sarawak is set to revise its industrial park plan to focus on emerging global industries, strengthening the state’s position as a competitive and attractive destination for foreign investment within the Asean region.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the updated concept will differ from the state’s earlier proposal, drawing on insights gained during a recent working visit to Suzhou, China.
According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report, Abang Johari’s new industrial park plan will align with the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, addressing the needs of the new economy and future industries.
“Upon my return, I will convene a special meeting to discuss this matter,” he told a press conference after visiting the GCL Group Headquarters in Suzhou, China.
He was accompanied by Deputy Minister of Utilities (Sarawak Energy Berhad and Petros) Datuk Ibrahim Baki, Petros chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Hamid Bugo, Petros Group CEO Dato Janin Girie, and other delegates.
Abang Johari highlighted Sarawak’s potential not only within Asean but also on a global scale, stressing the need to recalibrate development strategies in line with the shifting economic landscape.
“Our goal is to establish Sarawak as the star of Asean, particularly now that we are becoming more closely connected with our fellow Asean member countries.
“In addition, we will diversify our economic activities by harnessing clean and renewable energy as our primary resource, enabling us to produce modern and competitive products derived from these energy sources,” he said.
