SEBAUH (March 26): Sarawakians must continue fostering cooperation and mutual respect across all races, religions and backgrounds to preserve the state’s longstanding harmony, said Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.

The State Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development said maintaining peace and strengthening collaboration is key for a harmonious environment for future generations.

“What is important is that all parties must strive to maintain the existing peace and further strengthen long-established cooperation so that everyone can live in a peaceful and harmonious environment without any conflict,” he said.

The Kemena assemblyman made the remarks when gracing the Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house for Kampung Hilir Sebauh, held at the village hall here on Monday.

Dr Rundi added that rural development, particularly in villages and longhouses, will continue to be enhanced according to the needs of the people.

“The government is continuously working to bridge gaps between urban and rural areas. Balanced development will ensure both areas are comfortable places to live,” he said.

He also highlighted the importance of close cooperation between villagers and community leaders, including village heads and penghulu, to uphold a village’s reputation and ensure effective communication during unforeseen situations such as natural disasters or fires.

At the event, allocations of RM30,000 to Kampung Hilir Sebauh’s village security and development committee and RM10,000 to its women’s bureau were announced to support community activities.
