KOTA KINABALU (Feb 11): In conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year, the Sabah China Chamber of Commerce (SCCC), led by its president Datuk Frankie Liew, together with Dong Shun Group Sdn Bhd and Kang Tai Global Sdn Bhd, distributed essential goods and ang pows to underprivileged groups at Sri Pritchard Old Folks Home and Sabah Cheshire Home and Services here on Monday.
Liew, whose zodiac sign coincides with the Year of the Horse this year, announced that the ang pow contributions to both homes were doubled compared to last year in view of rising living costs.
The delegation first visited Sri Pritchard Old Folks Home in the morning, where they extended Chinese New Year greetings to its 94 residents and 33 staff members, before proceeding to Sabah Cheshire Home and Services.

Currently, Sabah Cheshire Home and Services provides care and training to 82 individuals, comprising 30 live-in and daycare residents, four at Cheshire Laundrette, six at Cheshire Edoris, 10 pastry trainees, 20 at Taska Mesra Cheshire, and 12 participants under the Economic Empowerment Programme in Housekeeping. The residents and trainees are supported by 44 staff members.
Liew said it has been his tradition to carry out charity visits to Sri Pritchard Old Folks Home and Sabah Cheshire Home and Services during Chinese New Year for the past 43 years.
“We hope that our initiative will bring warmth to society and allow those who are less fortunate to celebrate Chinese New Year with joy,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sabah Cheshire Home and Services manager Jennifer Liew said the home will be organising a raffle fundraising dinner on February 24 at 6pm, with a target of raising RM300,000 to cover operational expenses.
“There are many attractive prizes to be won, including a motorcycle as the grand prize, as well as gold bars and electrical appliances,” she said.
She urged members of the public to support the fundraiser to help sustain services for the underprivileged.
