KUCHING, Dec 5: District Scout Councils and District Scout Commissioners are encouraged to work with district education officers and schools to increase membership so that more students can join the scout movement.
According to a press release, Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom, advisor in the Office of the Premier of Sarawak (Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development), said this is in line with the recent call by Speaker of the Upper House Tan Sri Johari Abdul, who is also a member of the National Scout Council, to increase national scout membership to half a million by 2025.
The press release noted that he made the call when speaking at the Annual General Meeting of the Sarawak Scout Council held at a hotel in the city last Saturday afternoon.
“I want the District Scout Councils and the District Scout Commissioners to approach the education authorities at the district level to explain the membership target. I want all leaders to leverage on the large student population,” urged William, who is also the president of the Sarawak Scout Council.
William’s speech was read by Sarawak Scout Council deputy president Datuk Mohamad Safri Abdillah.
“The AGM gave its full support to the gala dinner organising committee headed by Khairul Anwar Shazali, who is the honourable treasurer of the Council to organise the dinner in March 2024 to celebrate the 111th of scouting in Sarawak.
“The AGM was also attended by Chief Scout Commissioner of Sarawak Capt Zainuddin Tan Sri Hamdan and vice president Juma’at Ibrahim,” it remarked. — DayakDaily
