KUCHING (Dec 28): The Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church Batu Kawa has received a RM200,000 grant from the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor).
Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang was present to hand over the cheque to the church representatives at a simple ceremony, held at the church sanctuary here yesterday.
In his remarks, Lo said the allocation reflected the Sarawak government’s continued commitment to supporting religious harmony and also the development of non-Muslim places of worship.
“The grant will be used to fund development and improvement works on the church, including upgrading the facilities for worship, community activities and services for its members.
“I stand to reaffirm the state government’s inclusive approach in ensuring that all religious communities would receive fair and equitable support, in line with Sarawak’s long-standing values of unity, mutual respect and religious freedom,” said the assemblyman.
The SDA Batu Kawa Church, represented by its pastor, elders, committee members and congregation, expressed appreciation to the Sarawak government, Unifor and Lo for the contribution.
