KUCHING (Oct 22): Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC), the Centre for Technical Excellence Sarawak (Centexs), and Angkasa-X Innovation Sdn Bhd have formalised their partnership to advance space-related industries, focusing on human capital development and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven technological solutions.
The collaboration, aimed to explore key developments in satellite technology, was marked by the exchange of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) during the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak 2024 (IDECS 2024), held at the Borneo Convention Centre here on Oct 16-17.
The ceremony was witnessed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
SDEC was represented by its chief executive officer Dato Sudarnoto Osman, while Centexs and Angkasa-X were represented by chief executive officer Dato Syeed Mohd Hussien Wan Abd Rahman and executive chairman Dato Dr Sean Seah, respectively.
“SDEC will look into the possibility of establishing the satellite Ground Stations for satellite operation and setting up of Assembly-Integration-Testing (AIT) facilities for the development of Sarawak owned satellites to provision Remote-sensing and Telecommunication services as part of the A-SEANSAT and A-SEANLINK Constellations.
“We will also look into the development of satellite applications and services through the Sarawak Digital and Innovation Ecosystem,” SDEC said in a release.
“The collaboration with Centexs focuses on human capital development, training and accreditation in space technology, rocket, satellite and related areas. This includes sharing or exchanging information, such as technical knowledge, professional experience, industry standards and best practices.
“The integration of AI into space and satellite technology will be the focus area for Angkasa-X. Its joint venture with Centexs will centre on SpaceTech talent specialising in satellite-engineering and space, as well as research and development to develop Sarawak/Borneo Space Economy,” it added.
Meanwhile, Sudarnoto highlighted the transformative potential of the partnership, emphasising that Sarawak-owned satellites will enhance communication infrastructure in remote and underserved areas.
“They facilitate advancements in broadband services, ensuring seamless communication and fostering innovation across various sectors,” he said.
