KUCHING (Oct 3): The Sarawak Entrepreneur Association (SEA) and the Young Entrepreneurs Association of Brunei (YEAB) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to mark the inauguration of the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office (Statob) in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei.

The agreement, formalised by SEA president Khairulnizam Mohamed Khalid and YEAB secretary Awangku Abdul Azim Pengiran Yusof, who represented president Goh Chai Li, aimed to strengthen collaboration in order to empower young entrepreneurs in both countries.

“This MoU reflects the commitment of both parties to promote business and investment opportunities, as well as foster entrepreneurship among the young business community in Sarawak and Brunei.

“It marks the beginning of a close collaboration between the two associations, focusing on key areas such as bilateral trade, entrepreneurship development and support for the Post-Covid 19 Development Strategy outlined by the Sarawak government,” said a joint statement today.

Also present were Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg; his deputy Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian; Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah; Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; along with government ministers, officials, business leaders and representatives from business associations of both countries.

Khairulnizam was quoted as saying: “This collaboration will open up significant opportunities for young entrepreneurs to share experiences, knowledge and best practices in building a more dynamic and innovative entrepreneurial community.

“SEA is always committed to providing a platform for young entrepreneurs in Sarawak, and through our partnership with YEAB, our entrepreneurial agenda will be further strengthened with various joint projects and initiatives,” he stressed.

Khairulnizam also highlighted the importance of networking and mentorship in the development of young entrepreneurs, saying: “Through this collaboration, we hope to offer better support and opportunities for our members to maximise their potential, especially in a global economy that is increasingly challenging.”

The agreement is expected to pave the way for broader cooperation in various fields, providing substantial benefits to young entrepreneurs in Sarawak and Brunei, he added.
