BINTULU (Sept 25): The search and rescue (SAR) operation for six-year-old Cicilia Julan Intik, who went missing following a crocodile attack in the Tatau River on Sept 18, has been suspended indefinitely.

Tatau Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Jankey Jikat said there had been no positive leads during the operation which entered its seventh day today, adding that rescuers will only resume operation when new clues are discovered.

“Today’s search began early in the morning, covering an estimated 5km radius upstream from the base along the Tatau River, near the location where the girl was attacked. This included the area along the old Tatau town.

“As of 10.30am, the SAR team reported no signs of the victim,” he said.

In the afternoon, the SAR operation was paused as the family, along with a crocodile shaman, performed a ritual to summon the crocodile and set a trap for it.

Meanwhile, the Sarawak Wildlife controller in a notice announced that a crocodile capturing operation will be conducted in Sungai Annap, Batang Tatau from September 26 to October 7.

This operation will be carried out by a special task force led by the Sarawak Forestry Corporation and the Tatau police, in collaboration with the Tatau District Office.

“Throughout the operation, no activities are permitted along the 5km stretch upstream and 5km downstream of the river from the old Tatau town.

“Additionally, taking photos and spreading false information is prohibited to prevent any speculation,” the notice stated.
