SEBUYAU, April 30: The RM12 million Sebangan Acute System construction project is expected to be completed by July, adding an additional five million litres of water per day to strengthen supply in the area.

Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said the project, which is currently 61 per cent complete, is set to benefit about 735 households in Sebangan and surrounding communities.

He said the new facility is designed to complement the existing supply from the Batu Kitang Water Treatment Plant.

“We are building this facility to support and stabilise the current supply, especially in rural areas such as Sebuyau and Sebangan,” he said during a site visit today.

Julaihi noted that the Kota Samarahan division currently receives about 45 million litres of water daily from the Batu Kitang plant, serving areas including Asajaya, Sadong Jaya, Sebangan, Sebuyau and Simunjan.

However, he said the long distribution network continues to pose challenges, with leakages and unauthorised water tapping affecting supply pressure.

“This plant will act as a supplementary and backup source to ensure a more stable and reliable water supply in the area,” he added. — DayakDaily
