KUCHING, May 30: Since the opening of the Batang Lupar Bridge, Sebuyau has recorded an increase in visitor arrivals, with local shops, eateries, and businesses reporting greater foot traffic as travellers take advantage of the improved road connectivity between the Samarahan and Betong divisions.
According to its assemblyman, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Sebuyau town and the Sampat Rural Transformation Centre (RTC), particularly shops and eateries, have begun attracting a large number of visitors.
“This is among the positive impacts of the opening of the Batang Lupar Bridge, the longest river-crossing bridge not only in Sarawak but also in Malaysia, connecting Sebuyau in the Samarahan Division to Triso Maludam in the Betong Division,” he said in a Facebook post on Friday (May 29).
This followed his attendance at a corporate social responsibility (CSR) contribution presentation ceremony held in conjunction with Gawai Dayak for residents of Kampung Bulan and nearby villages and longhouses at the Kampung Bulan Community Hall.
According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the programme saw the distribution of food baskets and cash contributions to 50 recipients from 22 villages.
Julaihi, who is also the Sarawak Minister of Utility and Telecommunications, lauded the programme as not only helping to lighten the recipients’ burden, but also strengthen relationships between leaders, agencies, and the local community.
He also expressed appreciation to Sacofa for implementing the CSR programme, which was also organised with the Sebuyau service centre and Sebuyau District Office. — DayakDaily
