KUCHING (Dec 8): See Hua Daily News together with sister paper Utusan Borneo have entered into an agreement with Xinhua News Agency to promote the exchange and cooperation of news between China and Chinese communities outside China.

Xinhua News Agency Kuala Lumpur Bureau chief Mao Pengfei said prior to this agreement, they have been collaborating with Oriental Daily over the past two years for the same purpose.

“The collaboration (with Oriental Daily) included the exchange of news headlines and stories, suggestions on news reporting, and feedback.

“Now we are expanding this collaboration, working together with See Hua Daily News and Utusan Borneo,” he said during the signing ceremony in Kuala Lumpur.

Mao said with this expansion, the new agreement reflects further cooperation not just with Chinese-language news outlets, but also a Bahasa Malaysia daily in Sarawak.

According to him, the news agencies involved can come together, conduct joint interviews, and delve into issues that matter to all.

He said they can further explore opportunities for other cooperation in line with improving news reporting and delivery.

Mao also invited local media practitioners to conduct a study visit to China to further enhance the exchange of news and collaboration.

Oriental Daily Editorial Coordination director Pattrik Ting, who was among those witnessing the signing, said readers of today pay far more attention on images rather than text.

Through collaboration with Xinhua News Agency, he said they have access to more high quality reporting content, which serves to attract more readers.

He also looked forward to establishing a long-term and sustainable relationship with the news agency.

Meanwhile, The Borneo Post and Utusan Borneo general manager Phyllis Wong said the collaboration will enable non-Chinese readers to get a better understanding on the latest developments and happenings in China.

She said local non-Chinese readers will also be able to learn more about mainland Chinese cultures and tourism-related information following this cooperation.

Among those present were See Hua Daily News general manager Chia Chiew Boon, Utusan Borneo editor-in-chief Sulaiman Bujang, Xinhua News Agency marketing manager Wang Haihua and its journalist Wang Jiawei.
