LUNDU, April 4: The proposed reconstruction of the Lundu District Police Headquarters (IPD) is currently under government consideration, while the Sematan Police Station development project under the 12th Malaysian Plan (12MP) has already been approved with an allocation of RM2 million.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, Minister of Women, Family and Community Development and Santubong MP Dato Sri Nancy Shukri said the IPD Lundu reconstruction proposal was submitted through the district police chief, with two potential sites identified for the project.
She noted that the proposed locations are situated opposite and adjacent to the Sarawak Centre of Technical Excellence (CENTEXS) Lundu.
“However, the proposal remains at an early stage and requires further evaluation, including approval from the State government, particularly on matters related to land ownership,” she said during a press conference following her official working visit to the Lundu District Police Headquarters on Friday (April 3).
She stressed that upgrading the Lundu IPD is essential, given its role as a primary hub for the public to access security services and lodge reports, thus necessitating more modern and conducive facilities.
On a related matter, she confirmed that the Sematan Police Station project under the 12MP has been approved at a cost of RM2 million.
“The project will involve demolishing existing wooden structures and replacing them with a permanent building, and is currently in the pre-implementation stage,” she explained.
Nancy added that the proposed new IPD must go through established procedures, including the preparation of a detailed proposal paper to be submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) for assessment in terms of necessity and financial implications.
During the visit, equipment contributions were also presented under the NS Rangkaian Kasih Programme, including canopies, chairs and tables to support both operations and community programmes at the Lundu IPD.
Between 2023 and 2025, a total of RM836,101 has been channelled to support logistical needs for the police and community, including the provision of canopies, public address systems and solar lights.
Also present were National Welfare Foundation chief executive officer Nordina Haron, Sarawak Social Welfare Department deputy federal director Mohd Ali Taib, and Lundu District Police chief Supt Sudirman Kram. — DayakDaily
