KUCHING (Jan 17): Syarikat Sesco Berhad (Sesco) recorded 48 cases of damaged cables at the start of this year, arising from the implementation of Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) projects.
Sesco chief executive officer Lau Kim Swee said cable damage could lead to power disruptions, causing inconvenience to the public and posing safety risks to operators.
“Therefore, we strongly urge them to exercise caution when carrying out excavation works near our cables,” he said when met at the Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) Media Appreciation Night at a hotel here on Friday night.
Lau also urged project operators to contact Sesco before proceeding with excavation works, especially near utility assets.
“We regularly carry out publicity campaigns to remind contractors to contact us before they begin any digging,” he noted.
He explained that once Sesco is contacted, a team will be dispatched to identify the location of underground cables to prevent damage.
“Anyone who is going to carry out construction works should call us first,” he reiterated.
Also present were SEB group chief operating officer Dato Ir James Ung, SEB department heads, as well as Kuching-based media practitioners who were celebrated at the event.
