MIRI (Sept 30): The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) has captured a 12.5-foot-long crocodile in Kuala Baram, with various objects and debris found inside its stomach.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook account, SFC said the crocodile hunting operation, which began on Sept 26 and will continue until Oct 5.
“As a result of the fishing line set in the area where a crocodile attack occurred at Ladang Batu 4, Kuala Baram (last week), a crocodile from the Crocodylus porosus species, measuring 12.5 feet, was successfully caught,” the statement read.
It said the objects and debris found in the reptile’s stomach were handed over to the police for further investigation.
The operation involved SFC’s Swift Wildlife Action Team (SWAT) team, Wildlife Guardian Ranger (WGR) and the police.
Last week, a 59-year-old man, was feared to have been attacked by a crocodile in Kuala Baram after failing to return home from fishing.
The body of the victim, identified as Minggu Ikum, 59, was discovered floating in a channel dug at an oil palm estate in Kuala Baram the next day. His his left hand and part of his leg were missing.
