KUCHING (Feb 14): The strategic partnership between Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) and the state’s media fraternity will be strengthened, underpinned by the corporation’s adoption of a more open and receptive approach to criticism.
Its general manager, Abang Arabi Abang Aimran, said criticism directed at the corporation could help improve service delivery, encourage more innovative approaches and enhance the effectiveness of its conservation programmes.
“We value constructive criticism, and even negative feedback can serve as guidance for us on how to improve.
“This is important because it helps us progress together, for the sake of the Sarawak we love today,” he said during SFC’s Media Appreciation Night held a hotel here on Friday night.
The event, he added, was organised as a gesture of appreciation to the media fraternity for their continued support of SFC’s roles and responsibilities.
“In fact, when I was entrusted by the Sarawak government to lead SFC, the first thing that came to mind was how I could thank all our friends in the media.
“I realise that the media play a very important role in sharing inspiration, knowledge, and essential information with the people throughout Sarawak.
“Thank you for helping us tell these stories — from the discovery of new species and conservation operations to community initiatives supporting the environment,” expressed Abang Arabi, who is also the Controller of National Parks and Nature Reserves, as well as for Wild Life.
He also hinted at reviving SFC’s Media Familiarisation Trip to selected national parks, nature reserves and wildlife sanctuaries.
“I want to revive the programme that we used to conduct over the past 10 years.
“The trip will show our friends in the media what Sarawak has to offer — the things we can take pride in and share with others outside Sarawak, all in the name of nurturing and preserving our natural environment,” he said.
Also present were Deputy General Manager (Management) Japanie Bujang, Deputy General Manager (Conservation) Madhan Kiflie, Angkatan Zaman Mansang chief executive officer Ali Suhaili and other guests.
