Shahelmey takes helm at SOGDC to drive strategic growth

KOTA KINABALU (Jan 16): Former Sabah Works Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya has been appointed as chairman of Sabah Oil and Gas Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (SOGDC), with ministerial status.

Following the appointment, Shahelmey made an official visit and attended a briefing session at the SOGDC headquarters, where he was received by Chief Executive Officer cum Managing Director Mohd Azmir Datuk Ramli, along with the SOGDC senior management team.

According to a statement, the visit reflected Shahelmey’s early commitment to his role and responsibilities in steering the organisation’s strategic direction.

During the visit, he emphasised the importance of strong governance, effective monitoring of corporate performance, and integrated management of SOGDC and its subsidiaries.

He also expressed his intention to strengthen SOGDC’s investment strategy by focusing on sustainable and strategic investment opportunities, while ensuring that existing investments are implemented in an orderly manner and aligned with established objectives.

SOGDC’s management and workforce welcomed the appointment and expressed full commitment to working professionally and supporting the chairman’s leadership in implementing the company’s corporate agenda and strategic policies, the statement added.

Continuous efforts will also be undertaken to uphold a work culture founded on integrity, harmony and performance orientation.

SOGDC said it is confident that the new leadership will further strengthen the company’s role as a strategic state entity, and continue contributing to the socio-economic development of Sabah through a sustainable and high-impact approach.
